A leaked internal document meant for Bell reps eyes only, says that not only are the above two facts key selling points, reps should also tell customers that the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the first Bold to offer a 5MP camera and support 512MB of RAM.

Synapse intro’s customizable Android devices

Tags: ,

08Synapse-Phones, a German company, is now offering customizable Android devices for pre-order. Customers will be able to customize their device in the same way you would order a custom PC from Dell.

The Synapse Android device template will start with Android 2.2, a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen (480×800), dual microphones, an aluminum frame, and a microSD slot.

You can then choose from features like new radios (i.e. 3G, LTE, WiMAX). You can also choose from different cameras, up to 12 megapixels, and either physical or capacitive buttons.

The more aesthetically inclined will appreciate the many color options, so you don’t have to purchase a cheesy aftermarket skin to express yourself, or pay an arm and a leg for a new housing.

The people have certainly demonstrated their interest in Synapse-Phones, overloading its under-prepared website. Devices starting at around US$410 are available for pre-order now (when the website is back up and running), and will ship by the middle of Q1 in 2011.

Yahoo Messenger app for video chat is extracted from a leaked T-Mobile myTouch 4G ROM

Tags: , , , ,

07We recently reported that a Yahoo Messenger app had been released for the Apple iPhone equipped with video chat. Unlike Face Time, Yahoo’s video chat service works just as well over 3G as it does over Wi-Fi. Although Yahoo’s intentions as to when a version for Google’s open source OS would be launched was not revealed, those willing to download a couple of files can warm up the front facing camera on their Android powered phone and start to video chat.

Thanks to MatthewJulian over at Xda-developers, a large file was extracted from a leaked T-Mobile myTouch 4G ROM. That’s not the only gold discovered while panning through the ROM. On Monday, we told you how a 50 second video promo for the handset was discovered-also from the ROM.

Because the file is huge, it has been cut in two easier to digest slices. Take your Android browser and head to Part One. When you’re done with that one, head over to-all together now-Part Two.

After the installation of the program, just remember that you have video chat on your phone. If you have your front facing camera on, telling your significant other that you’re at the library when you are really at the local strip club is no longer going to work.

Early take on Meizu M9

Tags: , , , ,

The Meizu M9 is an Android powered smartphone due to hit by the end of the year. One guy was lucky enough to go hands-on with the device that is said to be pitted against the Apple iPhone, and even some other devices running on Android.

According to a developer, the device rivals the speed found on the Samsung Galaxy S phones and their impressive 1 GHz processor that makes navigating the phone a breeze. Compared to the iPhone, the developer claims that the M9 came out on top in regards to web browsing speeds. The cameras were also put to the test, with the iPhone’s coming out on top in that head-to-head battle.

The Meizu M9 features its own custom user interface on top of the Android platform that the developer says is even easier to use than stock Android. Other than this, not much else is known. No word on screen-resolution, internal memory, nothing.

Stylish HTC Gratia heading to Europe with Froyo on board

Tags: , , ,

If you live in Europe, and have been lusting over the HTC Aria since it was first introduced as an AT&T-only handset back in the summer, your cravings are about to be satisfied. The HTC Gratia will come ashore with the same 3.2″ capacitive screen in 320×480 pixels of resolution, and 600MHz chipset, but HTC has bumped the operating memory a bit to 384MB from 256MB, and loaded Froyo on the handset.

More RAM, coupled with the performance optimizations of Android 2.2, should make the interface smoother, and leave power for more intensive tasks. The HTC Gratia will come in two more colors other than the plain black – Forest Green and Pearl White. HTC Sense UI, of course, comes standard, but not of the cloud-friendly flavor that will be coming to other HTC handsets. The HTC Gratia will be available from carriers and retailers in all major European markets in November.

Russian consumers will have to pay 36,990 rubles for the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Tags: , , ,

04Another day, another country is getting ready to sell the Samsung Galaxy Tab, but as we’ve been witnessing countless times, its price is somewhat a tad too much for people to hold down.

The realization that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be a premium option is further confirmed with Russia’s pricing for the highly prized Android powered tablet. Samsung Russia confirmed today that it’ll begin to go on sale in the mother land of Russia stating today, for the price of 36,990 rubles ($1,228). We know what you’re all thinking, even though the pricing is for an unlocked version of the tablet. Jaws might instantly drop to the floor knowing that it’s going to require some people to throw in a substantial investment to pick one up, but it’s still anyone’s guess as to how the US carriers will end up pricing their specific models.

So don’t be too surprised to see the other Samsung Galaxy Tab models to follow accordingly to the price structures we’ve seen thus far.

Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Galaxy S will be unleashed this month

Tags: , , , ,

02The cooler weather isn’t preventing the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 from slowing down with sales, but the onset of fall is surely going to pack an enticing treat for those who’ve been enjoying their handsets for quite some time. As we’ve seen a few devices already receiving the Android 2.2 treatment, like the Motorola DROID X and HTC EVO 4G, the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 will be getting its dose very shortly – specifically, it’ll be ready this month.

Samsung officially announced the good news in a press release, dated October 18th, that the Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S I9000 will include a host of features. Some of the expected goodies include Adobe Flash Player 10.1, search within the web browser, faster performance by JIT (Just In Time) compiler, and voice-controlled GPS through Google Maps with Navigation.

In the press release, it states that the update will “be available from the mid of October 2010 in the Nordic region and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world.”

Naturally, consumers shopping around for their next handset will probably want to keep the smartphone in mind now that it’s going to get the jump with Android 2.2 Froyo. As for the many variants of the Galaxy S out there, no word was given in the press release about their potential update.

Motorola DROID 2 Global shows up in Verizon reps’ training system

Tags: , , , ,

08After Motorola introduced the BlackBerry-esque DROID Pro with its global reach, many were surprised. For a world tripping Android device, most had expected the Schaumburg based manufacturer to offer a refitted version of the DROID 2, with enough internal radios to handle global roaming, to be introduced as the DROID 2 Global. Now it seems that those who had written off such a model following the DROID Pro’s introduction, might have been premature.

Found in the VZLearn employee training system, used by Big Red’s reps to learn all about a handset online, is none other than the Motorola DROID 2 Global. The other day, some specs for the device were posted and quickly taken down on Verizon’s site.

According to the information, the DROID 2 Global is your basic DROID 2 with a quad band antenna, a 1.2 GHz processor and a redesigned QWERTY keyboard. A 5MP camera is on the back with dual flash and AF. The device will ship with Android 2.2 aboard, offers support for Exchange and POP3/IMAP4 email, and accepts microSD cards for 32GB of added memory. Of course, with the phone removed from Motorola’s site, we have no information on pricing or possible launch date.

We can assume though, that if the reps are now getting trained on the Motorola DROID 2 Global, a formal introduction followed by a launch cannot be too far away. And all that will be left to do is to make a big decision. Will you go for the ‘Berry-esque portrait QWERTY keyboard equipped Motorola DROID Pro with its 3.1 inch screen, or will you go for the bigger 3.7 inch display and the landscape oriented QWERTY slider that will be found on the Motorola DROID 2 Global?
