What’s more, until midnight today, your activation fee for Sprint is waived as well, which makes the deal $36 sweeter.

We can’t argue with the phrase that good things come to those who wait, but in this case you might have to wait for the holiday season for these two handsets to become free on contract, so if you have been eying one of them, now might be the time to pull the trigger.

Just a reminder, the HTC EVO 3D is the first 3D-capable Android handset to hit the US shores, carries a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and a 4.3″ qHD display with true RGB matrix. The Motorola PHOTON 4G, on the other hand, also sports a dual-core chipset and 4.3″ qHD screen, and we found its camera and battery life to be a tad better than the EVO 3D’s.

You can read our extensive comparison between the two Android monsters on Sprint here, and watch the video comparison below.

You should have no problem as many handsets are in that category. You want to spend just $100? Before this morning, that little tidbit of info might have led to a fit of laughter, but now there is such a phone and it is being launched today by Sprint.

The Samsung Conquer 4G is a WiMax enabled Android handset that you won’t confuse for say, the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G. There is the matter of that 3.5 inch screen with resolution of 320 x 480. And the Qualcomm MSM8655 1GHz single-core processor is so 2010. On the back is a 3.2MP camera that was hot stuff back in the days of the LG Dare. Yet, the Samsung Conquer 4G isn’t totally designed for the Flintstone-era. Android 2.3 is installed and there is a 1.3MP front-facing camera. Of course, with 4G in the name of the phone, the handset is enabled for WiMax coverage. The Swype keyboard comes with the phone right out of the box.
Priced at $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a signed 2-year contract, the Samsung Conquer 4G appears just in time to give your kid going off to college, or for the first-time smartphone user unsure if he/she can handle all of those widgets and apps. The off-contract price is $399.99. Either way, you are getting Gingerbread and 4G connectivity for only $100. At a time when the price bar for new Android phones has been moved higher than the $199.99 that we have been accustomed to, the Samsung Conquer 4G has a refreshing price tag on the device-as long as you don’t mind some out of date specs.

At Sprint, the sizzling hot handset will be known as the Samsung Epic Touch 4G. The Samsung Epic 4G was the carrier’s second 4G enabled handset and the first 4G model to offer a side sliding QWERTY keyboard. With “Touch” as the part of the new phone’s moniker that differentiates it from the prior model, there will be no physical QWERTY on the Epic Touch 4G.

The information also mentioned to expect the phone to launch on September 9th. While that is a Friday, and Sprint usually launches phones on Sunday, that would have meant a launch on the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack which would certainly explain the Friday release. As far as T-Mobile is concerned, as we reported, leaked information is pointing to an October 26th launch of its Samsung Galaxy S II variant named the Samsung Hercules.

Unless other information is received that changes things, it looks like Sprint customers will have first crack at the smartphone that has been on everyone’s mind now for months. Those with Sprint accounts better start collecting loose change now because September 9th will be upon us before you know it.

More specifically, a number of PHOTON 4G smartphones have been reported to be experiencing the exact same symptom – when placing calls, the other party cannot be heard in the earpiece when speaking. Quite a serious issue for such a high-end device, don’t you agree?

Sadly, the “silent call” problem, as it is popularly known on the forums, has already been the reason for a 911 call to not go through so you can imagine what consequences the issue is capable of leading to. Some PHOTON 4G owners suggest that rebooting the phone takes care of the glitch, at least for about a day, yet that is anything but a solution to the problem, especially when every second is of importance.

According to affected Motorola PHOTON 4G users who have contacted Sprint for help, the carrier is well aware of the issue and is working hard on resolving it. It has been said that a software fix will be released in the upcoming days and will take care of the problem once and for all. Those of you who are willing to try out an unofficial fix, however, can check out what the guys over at XDA-Developers have to offer. Below, we have provided a link to a thread on the fourm where a leaked maintenance update can be downloaded from.

If you are a Motorola PHOTON 4G owner yourself, please, drop a comment below and let us know whether your smartphone is acting up as well.

Thanks to our anonymous tipster!

Download the unofficial software fix for the Motorola PHOTON 4G from here.

The dual-screen handset ran into some problems as some users found their beloved handset tuned into a useless brick.

The dual-screen Kyocera Echo

In a statement, Sprint said that along with Kyocera, it has addressed the issues that turned the phone into an expensive paperweight. The upgrade itself will give users a faster response from the phone including push-to-zoom support, enhanced gaming experience and improved power management. The latter is a pre-installed app called Eco Mode that allows you to set a certain level at which low power consumption settings automatically come into play. According to Sprint, the settings affected are Screen Timeout, Display Brightness, Wallpaper, Auto-Sync, Haptic Feedback, and Auto-Rotate Screen. The settings are changed to conserve power and the user can decide which ones are to be changed when the battery life hits a predetermined level, so that the phone conserves power.
Of course, don’t forget that the major part of this update is to download Android 2.3 on to your Kyocera Echo. If you have received the new OTA update from Sprint, let us know how your phone is doing. Did the prior download leave your phone bricked? Does the new update do all the things that Sprint says that it does? Just drop us a note in the comment box below.

Thankfully enough, McAfee and Sprint are joining forces in an effort to provide customers a sense of protection.

Sprint customers will now have the opportunity of trialing, and then purchasing McAfee’s Mobile Security and Family Protection software for their Android powered smartphones.

The Mobile Security app is initially available as a 7-day free trial for anyone who wishes to check it out, but then after that, its annual subscription fee stands at $29.99. Some of its features include the ability to track and locate a smartphone, lock or wipe the device remotely, and get backup protection for things like your contacts, photos, and videos. Absolutely, it’ll protect your handset from viruses, malware, trojans, and just about any other nasty baddies out there.

As for the Family Protection software suite, it’s free to use for the first 30 days, but it’ll incur an annual subscription of $19.99. This one is geared around monitoring and filtering items on your smartphone – like blocking specific sites that are not intended for kids. Also, it offers built-in protections so that your kids, even if they’re phone smart, won’t be able to remove it from the phone.

You can download either of the two apps starting today directly from the Sprint tab in the Android Market or from the Sprint Zone app.

Who doesn’t love the fact when we see third party sellers offering pre-orders for an upcoming phone, but rather than sticking with the carrier’s original pricing, they simply blow them out of the water?

Well, if you happen to be eying the upcoming Samsung Conquer 4G for Sprint, you might want to check out what Walmart is offering right now. Specifically, they already have the 4G WiMAX enabled smartphone up for pre-order, but more importantly, early adopters choosing to side with the retailer are going to be knocked out by its sticker price.

Although Sprint is pricing the handset at the affordable price of $99.99 with a 2-year contract, early adopters will find it difficult to not side with Walmart on this one because they’re selling it for free! Considering that it packs some mid-range specs, the free on-contract pricing is undoubtedly astonishing on so many levels.

Indeed, it’s neither the biggest, nor the baddest Android smartphone on Sprint’s lineup, but the combination of a fantastic price and decent hardware will really catch the attention of anyone.

Oh, you gotta love those tipsters for all the leaks that they kindly share with the World. Sure, the spicy rumors that they bring to the table are anything but guaranteed to be true, but they can surely spark the imagination of pretty much every smartphone enthusiast out there.

Today, we came across a leak revealing the alleged names of three devices, all of which are said to be destined for Sprint. Starting with the most interesting among the bunch, the Samsung Epic 4G Touch is what Sprint’s version of the almost iconic Galaxy S II smartphone will be known like, according to the rumor. That, of course, lines up well with other insider tips that we’ve stumbled upon, so the leak that we are dealing with today might be onto something after all.

The leaked image revealing the names of the three upcoming devices

The second smartphone that we are getting familiar with today is known as the HTC EVO Design 4G, which is the name suggested for the upcoming HTC Kingdom. Now, we are witnessing somewhat of a paradox forming here as the Kingdom might also hit the market as the HTC Hero 4G, yet this monicker has not been officially confirmed either. What is said about the HTC Kingdom is that it will pack a 4-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm chipset, 5-megapixel camera and, of course, a WiMAX radio.

Last but not least, the Motorola Admiral is rumored to be another Sprint-bound cellphone, and by the lack of the 4G designation in its name we are assuming that it will not be sitting anywhere near the carrier’s top-tier smartphones. Sadly, the leak remains silent and does not reveal any further details about the device.

Bear in mind that all there is to back up the alleged names of these three devices is the black and white image you see here, so it would probably be wise if you file this under “rumors” for now. Chances are, however, that if the leak is on the right track, we will be hearing more news about these phones pretty soon.
