08Every Friday this month, Best Buy Mobile has given away a quartet of current, top-of-the-line handsets. The retailer is offering a handset for free, one from each of the top four U.S. carriers, to those who are willing to sign a new 2 year contract to extend their current service. If you can’t make it to the store, you can also take advantage of this promotion using the Best Buy Mobile web site.

This Friday, the four free phones are the Samsung Fascinate (Verizon), BlackBerry Bold 9700 (AT&T, T-Mobile) and the Sanyo Zio (Sprint). For those who want to order their free device wearing a robe, the Best Buy Mobile web site can be found by clicking on this link.

Next Friday will be the last one for this promotion and we would love to see the retailer raise the stakes a little for the last week. How about offering the Motorola DROID X, the Apple iPhone 4, the Samsung Epic 4G and a pre-order of the HTC HD7. Are you listening to us, Best Buy Mobile?

Kyocera Zio M6000

Kyocera Zio M6000

If you ask us, the biggest advantage of Android when compared to the other young Operating Systems is that it can be used by any manufacturer. It comes as no surprise, that even Kyocera joins this game. The manufacturer typically makes entry level handsets, but today it announced a decent smart phone – the Kyocera Zio M6000. It runs on Android 1.6, but is expected to be user upgradable to version 2.1 later.

The greatest feature of the Zio is the 3.5” screen sporting WVGA 800×480 pixels resolutions. The surprises end here and the other features are just what one can expect : It has modest 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.

Kyocera Zio M6000 is a CDMA/EV-DO phone with version supporting the AWS band. It is said to launch in the second quarter of the year, and we expect to see it in the lines of carriers like MetroPCS, Cricket and Virgin Mobile. It shouldn’t break the bank and contract-free price is said to be below $220.
