Best Buy offers up 5 Android phones for $99.99 each

Best Buy is making this holiday season even brighter and more full of cheer with the news that they will be offering five (5) Android handsets for $99.99 each, no mail-in rebate required. The smartphones eligible for this price are the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment from Sprint, the myTouch 3G and Motorola CLIQ from T-Mobile, and the HTC DROID Eris from Verizon. No availability dates are yet known, but it may be a fair bet that we will see this pricing rolled out by Black Friday (this friday!) if Best Buy and the carriers want to get a jump on the holiday shopping feeding frenzy.

The commercials feature the popular Palm Pre, the BlackBerry Tour, and of most interest to us, the HTC Hero. Best Buy selling Sprint’s HTC Hero and Samsung Moment for $99

Just in time for the holiday season, Best Buy is selling the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment, both on the Sprint network, for only $99. Best Buy will offer this price through the end of December and it requires a two-year contract. If $99 pricing wasn’t enough good news, then you will be happy to know that this low pricing requires NO rebate forms — the savings are instant. It’s great to see such aggressive pricing for these Android handsets, and it’s just in time to get into the holiday spirit!

Sprint now offering HTC Hero

The Android-powered HTC Hero is finally available in the U.S. via Sprint and their “Now Network.” For $179.99 and a two-year contract, you can take this little wonder home and enjoy some eye-pleasing home screen widgets, a 5.0-megapixel camera, and plenty of apps in the Android Market.

Europe has been enjoying the Hero for a while now, but it’s fresh and new in the States and ushers in a wave of new Android devices that should surely make the little green ‘droid-lover’s heart glad. Let us know if you pick up an HTC Hero from Sprint – let us know what you think!

Verizon and Google Android partner up

Brandishing a shiny Verizon HTC Hero and the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid, Eric Schmidt and Lowell McAdam stood together as partners to officially seal the deal between Verizon and Google. Verizon is poised to carry Android handsets and little green ‘droid lovers everywhere (or at least within Verizon’s network) can soon enjoy the likes of the HTC Hero and Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid, just as pictured here. If YOU plan on heading over to Verizon when these lovelies are available, which one is your pleasure?

Sprint giving developers HTC Hero and service freebie

Sprint isn’t playing around with their commitment to Android and the HTC Hero. They announced that at the developer’s conference being held on October 26, they will give away free HTC Hero handsets and a month of free service to the first 400 developers who attend the HTC Coding Lab. In order to qualify, attendees must have a laptop with Android development environment 1.5 installed and running for the hands-on session. This should be a nice incentive for developers to attend, to get involved with developing for Android, and in turn that will be positive for all of us who are a fan of that little green ‘droid.

How-to: get HTC Hero’s Sense UI on your G1

If you aren’t familiar with the wizards over at XDA Developers, then this is a good opportunity to get acquainted with them as they walk you through the step-by-step of installing the HTC Hero’s fabulous Sense UI onto your T-Mobile G1. It is not for the faint of heart and is an involved process, but it’s something you can do with their help. Of course, we here at AndroidArena assume no responsibility whatsoever for any mishaps you encounter along the way, so this is certainly a caveat emptor kind of situation. Watch the video and give it a go if you want the Sense interface on your G1.

HTC Hero hands-on

Even though it’s not available to the general public yet, the lucky folks over at Android Community got an early Christmas present from HTC: an unlocked Hero. They wasted no time posting a video of the unboxing, some hands-on time using the new Sense interface, and tons of photos, of course. They may not be going out on a limb when they say it may be the best Android device yet. Here is a reminder of the Hero’s specs:

3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen
5-megapixel camera
HSPA
WiFi, GPS
Android OS 1.5 “Cupcake”
SENSE!

HTC Hero launching on July 21?

Oh HTC Hero, where art thou? Online retailer Cleverkit.com may have spilled the beans about a release data of the HTC Hero on the Orange and T-Mobile UK networks. Cleverkit claims they will have the Hero on July 21, SIM-free, unlocked, and at a price of £439.

The Hero is HTC’s third Android handset and it offers the “Sense” UI special sauce. If July 21 is for real, then UK customers are only a week away from having their own personal Hero. Stay tuned as we get close to the alleged launch date!
