While we all anxiously await the arrival of the Droid on Verizon, an interesting rumor has popped up about the Droid — instead of just being a new Android handset, the rumor mill suggests that it’s a whole line of Android phones for Verizon. The Motorola Sholes, a.k.a. the Droid, will be the first and may be followed quickly by the HTC Desire, a.k.a. the Droid Eris, on November 6th.
If this rumor is true, it certainly demonstrates commitment by Verizon to the Android platform, and it also means that we will have a couple new Android phones to choose from very soon. If rumor is confirmed as reality, we will let you know right here!
The folks over at Boy Genius Report have in their possession a new Android-powered Motorola Droid, and they aren’t shy about telling it all – the good, bad, and ugly. Fortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much to talk about in the “bad” and “ugly” category. BGR really likes this handset. They speak highly of the build quality, spec details, spacious touch-screen, speed, and Android OS. They lament the keyboard quality a little bit, but overall, are highly impressed with the Droid. Check out their preview right here.
Just in case all of the new Android handsets aren’t enough to satisfy your little green ‘droid appetite, the Motorola Calgary is likely to appear sometime in Q4 on Verizon. This sleek Android device with slide-out QWERTY keyboard should appeal to the masses, particularly the youthful text-crazed consumers out there.
The Calgary includes features like three touch-sensitive Android keys on the display, optical joystick, 3-megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack, GPS, digital magnetometer, Wi-Fi, and microSD for additional storage. No word yet on a specific arrival date, but coupled with the Motorola Droid, Verizon will be packing an Android one-two punch.
Verizon is getting busy bludgeoning the iPhone with an ad campaign that highlights the capabilities and features of the Motorola Droid (Sholes) while telling the audience what the iPhone can’t do, calling Apple’s iPhone the “iDon’t”. Here is a rundown of the do’s and don’t’s:
Droid do’s:
Physical keyboard
Multitasking
5-megapixel camera
Takes pictures in the dark
Customizable
Runs widgets
User-replaceable battery
iPhone don’t’s:
No physical keyboard
No 5-megapixel camera
No pictures in the dark
No user customization
No widgets
No user-replaceable battery
It appears the new Droid coming from Verizon can DO a lot of things, and that AT&T’s iPhone CAN’T DO a lot of things. The Droid is looking very powerful indeed.
Brandishing a shiny Verizon HTC Hero and the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid, Eric Schmidt and Lowell McAdam stood together as partners to officially seal the deal between Verizon and Google. Verizon is poised to carry Android handsets and little green ‘droid lovers everywhere (or at least within Verizon’s network) can soon enjoy the likes of the HTC Hero and Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid, just as pictured here. If YOU plan on heading over to Verizon when these lovelies are available, which one is your pleasure?
