Motorola MILESTONE XT720 brings Xenon flash to Android

Tags: , , , ,

The Motorola MOTOROI, which was introduced to the South Korean market some time ago was surely an attractive Android smartphone. However, the handset’s distribution was limited to that market only, so U.S. and European customers had to go without it. But a few weeks ago a ray of hope cut through the cloudy skies as a rumor hit the streets, going that an improved version of the Motorola MOTOROI will make its way to the UK. And now, here it is – the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 Android 2.1 smartphone, ready to take great images with its 8MP camera with Xenon flash. This really looks to be the most camera-centric Android handset to date, especially when you throw 720p HD video recording into the deal. Other than that, the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 seems to be a very good looking handset with characteristic design, large 3.7-inch, 480×854 resolution capacitive screen, HDMI interface, 3.5mm jack,  and all other kinds of stuff.

Motorola has not announced the availability date and price of the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 yet, but we hope the handset will be out soon, since otherwise the manufacturer might end up offering an already dated smartphone, as it often happens in this highly-competitive market.

The altek Leo is a 14MP camera with a smartphone added

Tags: ,

09Most of today’s touchscreeen smartphones look like cellphones with a small lens added to the back of the device. The altek Leo reverses this concept as it looks like it’s 14MP camera has a smartphone added to it. Speculation is that the Leo (not to be confused with the HTC model that eventually became the HD2) will be Android powered considering the home, back and menu buttons. Still, not much is known about the phone’s specs. What is known is that the handset supports HSDPA radio bands and has a 14MP CCD with 3X optical zoom. This could be the one smartphone that a professional photographer would use for his photographic work. The unit also handles HD video capture at 720p. The company plans to introduce Leo at the CommunicAsia show this month in Singapore. Wi-Fi enabled, Leo can upload pictures and video directly to social networking sites. Alex Hsia, president and CEO of altek says both users and carriers win when smartphones can deliver superior images. He said,  “Phones able to capture high definition, high quality images and video are a win‐win for users as well as telecommunication service providers, as the latter can anticipate rising bandwidth usage rates when users share images remotely.”

UPDATED: Samsung I8520 is an Android phone with built-in projector

Tags: , , , , ,

While we were examining Samsung’s official Mobile World Congress page we stumbled upon the Samsung I8520. By the looks of it, the I8520 will be an Android 2.1 based phone with some quite impressive specs. First of all, we should mention the large 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen (utilizing the new technology by Samsung). The camera is listed as an 8-megapixel one with autofocus and flash and the phone will also offer HD video playback (not sure yet if it has recording in HD). The star of the show though is the built-in projector by Texas Instruments that will let you build your own home cinema. Over Android, the manufacturer has placed its TouchWiz 3.0 user interface in order to provide an experience similar to its other phones.

The design of the Samsung Halo I8520 is pretty simple so to say, but this doesn’t matter too much as we believe this is a phone targeted at the tech buffs out there, and not to users who demand style from their handsets. The I8520 did not get introduced at the event tonight, but we think we’ll see more from it pretty soon.

The US to get the Motorola MOTOROI in March

Tags: , , , , , , ,

01The US to get the Motorola MOTOROI in MarchIt was only yesterday when we first heard of the Motorola MOTOROI smartphone, another Android 2.0 device that looks like a SHOLES tablet, which is headed to South Korea. Now a day later we’ve learned that a US version will be coming to the States in March and other countries later in the year. Even though no US carrier has announced it yet, our guess would be T-Mobile or AT&T since its GSM-based. However there is always a chance a CDMA version could be in the works for a later release. Features include Android 2.0 (which should be upgradeable to 2.1), 3.7″ WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 8MP autofocus camera with Xenon flash, 720p HD video recording, HDMI video-out port, and supports 32GB microSDHC memory cards. The only thing that appears to be missing from the US version is the T-DMB tuner, which wouldn’t work here anyway, but how about replacing it with FLO TV or Mobile DTV?
