Is-Sony-Ericsson-planning-to-release-an-Android-flavored-Walkman-phoneNow not more than speculation and a box, Sony Ericsson is said to be working on an Android flavored Walkman phone called the W15. The phone is supposed to resemble the XPERIA 8 and is loaded with specs that are anything but high-end. The W15 is expected to come with a 3 inch HVGA screen and a 600MHz processor with a 3.2MP camera on the back.

The device will have a custom UI and a special audio chip. A launch could come as soon as this month or in May. So far there has been no word on where the Sony Ericsson W15 will first be released or on how much it will cost.

If this turns out to be more than just a rumor and a box, it will be a nice comeback for the Walkman name which has not been seen on a cellphone for some time.

Sprints-Samsung-Replenish-focuses-on-its-eco-friendly-nature---vanishing-10-data-chargeSprints-Samsung-Replenish-focuses-on-its-eco-friendly-nature-Knowing that you’re helping out the environment by picking up one of the eco-friendly devices on Sprint’s lineup, you might find some to be inadequate for your modern tastes – so that’s where Sprint’s Samsung Replenish comes to mind.

Yesterday, word traveled about Sprint announcing the device today, and right on cue, it’s announced as being the world’s first “green” Android powered device – literally! Naturally, some would associate green with Android, but in this case, it’s partially constructed out of recycled plastic to save the environment. Moreover, its eco-friendly nature is further supplemented by its recycled packaging and energy efficient charger. And if that’s not enough savings, you’ll be surprised to know that there is an added benefit with buying the handset – Sprint will actually wave its usual $10 per moth premium data fee; thus replenishing your very own pockets.

As for specs, it’s nothing spectacular, but considering its $49.99 on-contract cost and still rare portrait style QWERTY form factor, it can undoubtedly be appreciated by some people. Some of its features include a 2.8” QVGA touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera, 600MHz Qualcomm MSM-7627-2 processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, and a 1,160 mAh battery.

T-Mobile-G2x-UnboxingPulling a fast one on all of us (literally), the T-Mobile G2x came out of nowhere and plopped itself right for sale earlier today for the customary price of $200 with a 2-year contract. Undeniably, there is a resounding amount of Android activity surrounding T-Mobile, and with this device, it’s sure to impress quite a few faces out there.

Arriving unexpectedly, we’re utterly excited to say the least to check out the T-Mobile G2x – which so happens to be Tmo’s variant of the almighty LG Optimus 2x. In fact, we’re getting giddy just thinking about it primarily because the US market has yet to see light of a decent high-end Android device from LG’s camp up until now. Sadly, there isn’t much to find included with its retail packaging – which so happens to be your customary set of items. Yeah, you’ve got the wall charger adapter, microUSB cable, and usual set of documentation, but there isn’t anything else tucked along for the ride to make the unboxing experience memorable. Regardless of that, our eyes were glued directly onto this polarizing handset as we pulled it out from its temporary home.

There’s a lot to like about this beauty of an Android smartphone, but before we get too attached to it and make any final reservations, you can check out the unboxing video below to see why we’re undoubtedly excited. Expect our in-depth review soon!

Motorola kills the DROID BIONIC Etna, with the Targa to replace it

Motorola-kills-the-DROID-BIONIC-Etna-with-the-Targa-to-replace-itWe’ve recieved word from the depths of Motorola that the highly anticipated Etna, commonly know as the DROID BIONIC, which was slated to be Motorola’s first 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon, has been canceled due to a variety of reasons.

First off, we got a nice hands-on look at the DROID BIONIC earlier this year at CES, as the phone would be the first for Verizon to come with a NVidia Tegra2 dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3″ qHD display, and 4G LTE data capabilities.

Then a few weeks later we got word that both the Atrix and DROID BIONIC were having power management bugs, which would cause them to overheat and effect the RF performance. When the Atrix was released, our sources said the power management bugs were resolved on the Atrix, but was still having difficulty on the DROID BIONIC.

Since then, we’ve continued to hear that things were not going well for the DROID BIONIC (Etna), as it continually failed internal testing at Motorola. Not only with the power management, but that there are some major issues with trying to get the NVidia Tegra 2 processor to work right with the baseband chips that control the hand-off between the CDMA, EVDO, and LTE radios.

Because of the variety of issues with the DROID BIONIC (Etna), as well as weak sales of the XOOM, we got word from our trusted tipsters that the “administration” at Motorola has decided to pull the plug on the DROID BIONIC (Etna) all together, and they are not happy about it either, since it was shown at the CES and was expected to come out in Q2.

Because of the cancellation of the DROID BIONIC (Etna), Motorola is placing more effort in releasing the DROID X 2 (Daytona) next, followed by the DROID 3 (Solana), even though they will not support 4G LTE.

It did not make sense for Motorola to keep delaying the release of the Etna due to the issues, and have it come out after the Targa. Because of this, Motorola is ramping-up its plans for the Targa, which will be the 4G device that takes the place of the Etna. Since it is up to Verizon to “name” the device, there is a chance the Targa might still be called “DROID BIONIC” when it is released, or could end up with a different “DROID” label.

The Motorola Targa will most likely be a Q3 summer device, which is placing it a few months behind what the expected release was for the Etna, but from the people that we’ve talked to, the Targa a much better device and will be worth the wait. It will feature a dual-core processor, 4.3″ qHD display, a 13MP camera on the rear, and a 1.3MP camera on the front.

We will keep you updated when we learn more information, and we’ll be waiting to see if Motorola officially announces that the Etna will not be the DROID BIONIC, and what their plans are for the Targa.

AutoCAD-WS-for-Android-enables-real-time-design-collaborationIf you work with AutoCAD (computer-aided design) software, then you’re probably familiar with AutoCAD WS for iOS. And Autodesk, the makers of AutoCAD WS, have announced that an Android version is coming soon.

AutoCAD WS will allow you to view, edit, and share your design projects in real-time from your Android device. And your collaborators and clients can do the same from their Android or iOS device, or any computer with a browser. Viewing the projects from a computer doesn’t require a special app, so you can bring anyone in on the review process.

AutoCAD WS allows you to store your projects online, so they’re never beyond reach, even without your device. But there is still the option to edit them offline. And the controls are familiar and intuitive, so it won’t be a great departure from your normal design experience.

Industry professionals and aspiring designers alike could benefit from the convenience and access of AutoCAD WS. It will be available from the Android Market soon. Visit the link below to register for Autodesk’s AutoCAD WS notifications.

Dual processor for the Motorola DROID X2 makes itself known in video

Dual-processor-for-the-Motorola-DROID-X2-makes-itself-known-in-videoWe recently reported that the Motorola DROID X2 is expected to become reality later this year. While the device will not launch with 4G connectivity, it was assumed that such a high-end device would launch with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor under the hood. And while Motorola and Verizon have been mute considering the handset, a video made of the DROID X2 booting up shows the screen with the words “DUAL CORE” splashed across the qHD display.

Even without a connection to Verizon’s LTE network, the Motorola DROID X2 could appeal to those Verizon customers still making do with the original DROID. And you know that many owners of the original DROID X are going to want to taste the dual-core goodness of the sequel.

If 4G connectivity is a deal-breaker, well, there is always the phone code-named the Motorola Targa which resembles the DROID X but is enabled for an LTE connection.

Quadrant benchmark test of Samsung Galaxy S II produces amazing score of 3,053

If true, the Samsung Galaxy S II scored an incredible 3,053 on the Quadrant benchmark test

If true, the Samsung Galaxy S II scored an incredible 3,053 on the Quadrant benchmark test

Quadrant-benchmark-test-of-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-produces-amazing-score-of-3053As we just told you, the Samsung Galaxy S II will not ship with the Tegra 2 dual-core processor in the U.K. Instead, the handset will have Samsung’s own Exynos chipset under the hood. And while the accuracy of the Quadrant benchmark test for dual-core processors has not yet been determined, the Exynos chip apparently produced a brain-numbing score of 3,053 on a Quadrant test run by Eldar Murtazin. We say “apparently” because it is possible that instead of using the Galaxy S II running on the Exynos 1.2 GHz processor and Mali-400 MP GPU, it’s possible that Murtazin’s model was powered by a nVidia Tegra 2 with a ULP GeForce GPU.

The score beat out the 2,958 produced on a Quadrant test of the LG Optimus 3D, which we reported on back during the MWC. Ironically, the Samsung Galaxy S II scored only 1950 at the same time, making us wonder if Samsung has tweaked its device since February, or if that high score of 3,053 is legit.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is expected to launch May 1st in the U.K. and there is no word yet if the phone will be offered in the States.

LG Optimus 2X may see its Gingerbread update in June or July

LG-Optimus-2X-may-see-its-Gingerbread-update-in-June-or-JulyTimely software updates may not be something for LG to brag about. That is why we cross our fingers every time we hear about one coming. Luckily, this time the word comes from a reliable source – LG’s Danish website, which hints in its FAQ section that Android 2.3 Gingerbread should land on the LG Optimus 2X in June or July of this year.

In the U.S., LG’s dual-core superphone may be more popular as the T-Mobile G2x, and as our loyal readers probably know, it is expected to launch next Wednesday. Hopefully, we will eventually see it being treated to an update as well, as long as T-Mobile releases Gingerbread for over-the-air download, of course.

Nevertheless, we are excited that the LG Optimus 2X may finally run Android’s latest version even though older devices like the LG Optimus One might beat it to it. We will be keeping our eyes open for a solid confirmation from LG and will surely let you know if a release date gets announced.
