Some-Motorola-PHOTON-4G-units-suffering-from-a-silent-call-issueIt has been brought to our attention that some units of the Motorola PHOTON 4G are causing headaches to their unlucky owners. More specifically, a number of PHOTON 4G smartphones have been reported to be experiencing the exact same symptom – when placing calls, the other party cannot be heard in the earpiece when speaking. Quite a serious issue for such a high-end device, don’t you agree?

Sadly, the “silent call” problem, as it is popularly known on the forums, has already been the reason for a 911 call to not go through so you can imagine what consequences the issue is capable of leading to. Some PHOTON 4G owners suggest that rebooting the phone takes care of the glitch, at least for about a day, yet that is anything but a solution to the problem, especially when every second is of importance.

According to affected Motorola PHOTON 4G users who have contacted Sprint for help, the carrier is well aware of the issue and is working hard on resolving it. It has been said that a software fix will be released in the upcoming days and will take care of the problem once and for all. Those of you who are willing to try out an unofficial fix, however, can check out what the guys over at XDA-Developers have to offer. Below, we have provided a link to a thread on the fourm where a leaked maintenance update can be downloaded from.

If you are a Motorola PHOTON 4G owner yourself, please, drop a comment below and let us know whether your smartphone is acting up as well.

I loved the motorola phone until now. I have had this phone less than 3 weeks & sprint even provided a 2nd phone. I’m experiencing the same issue & I’m very disappointed! I was with verizon for over 10years & never experience phone problems of this magnitude!

Experienced the same silent calls two days after purchase. Took it in for sprint to fix and reboot and am now experiencing the same problem (exactly one week after fix). Frustrated and would appreciate a quick and permanent fix to this problem. Hate to go back to sprint to exchange for htc evo.

Ok just got off of a lengthy call with sprint. The rep I talked to took a while to find out any info on the silent call problem but finally did an I was “told” the ota update will be out fri, the 26th. Hopefully she didnt just tell me that to appease me but, im hoping that is true. Jusy a lil fyi.

  9. Mitch says:

I am on 2nd Photon in two weeks. still having to reboot several times a day and have issues downloading apps. Also disappointed in battery life

  10. Chacho says:

I’ve got the silent calls too. Have to reboot about twice a day. Ive spoken to two sprint reps and a motorola rep, none of whom had any information on this obviously widespread issue. It wasn’t until I did a simple search on the net, that I found out what was going on. Most frustrating phone experience I’ve ever encountered. Good news for sprint today, Iphone will be available in october, that should be interesting.

i just got mine last week and i’ve been having the same problem since day 2. just talked to 3 different sprint reps and they were all garbage, one told me there was an “outage” reported in my area today — i proceeded to ask if that would have affected my calls LAST WEEK. clueless. i hope there’s a legit fix asap.

had mine for about 2 weeks. I have to reboot several times a day for it to work properly. Now the ear speaker won’t work at all… CRAPPY!!!

I purchased mine two months ago because it was on the list of supported devisces for Intuit’s credit card swiper. So I ordered the service, paid the setup charges and promply dropped my photon in a bucket of water. The waranty tood two weeks to replace the device. When I got around to calling in to process my first credit card it would not work. I called Intuit customer service only to have them tiee me that it no longer was on the list, the call was promptly dropped. Whed I called back the rep told me it was never on the list. Great phone but I paid a lot of money for something that will not do what I purchaed it for. Motorola was of no use when I called them hoping for at least a recomendation of a processor I could use thier phone with. the last latest and greates phone I purchased from sprint was the Samsung Moment. It was thier most expensive phone! A month after I purchaed it was no longer sold at the sprint store and the rep admitted that maybe it was never so great. No wonder people like thier I-phones.
