Kyocera-Echo-users-try-again-for-brick-free-Gingerbread-updateAs we reported, back on August 1st, Sprint rolled out the Gingerbread update for the Kyocera Echo. The dual-screen handset ran into some problems as some users found their beloved handset tuned into a useless brick.

In a statement, Sprint said that along with Kyocera, it has addressed the issues that turned the phone into an expensive paperweight. The upgrade itself will give users a faster response from the phone including push-to-zoom support, enhanced gaming experience and improved power management. The latter is a pre-installed app called Eco Mode that allows you to set a certain level at which low power consumption settings automatically come into play. According to Sprint, the settings affected are Screen Timeout, Display Brightness, Wallpaper, Auto-Sync, Haptic Feedback, and Auto-Rotate Screen. The settings are changed to conserve power and the user can decide which ones are to be changed when the battery life hits a predetermined level, so that the phone conserves power.
Of course, don’t forget that the major part of this update is to download Android 2.3 on to your Kyocera Echo. If you have received the new OTA update from Sprint, let us know how your phone is doing. Did the prior download leave your phone bricked? Does the new update do all the things that Sprint says that it does? Just drop us a note in the comment box below.

update bricked my phone, 3 sprint store techs couldn’t fix it. I call sprint and I’ve been hung up on, chat closed by them…..they are sending me in circles. No one has been informed of this update doing that, they are treating me like I don’t understand and I am getting really mad. this phone worked really good and they messed it up and it’s my fault. I bet almost everyone is having this problem, that’s what I get for messing with a SPRINT phone, screw sprint. I am very angry and they are the ones who messed these phones up. If this stupid poor customer support wireless carrier would at least stand up and admit their fault or release something I could fix it with that would be at least somewhat helpful. They released the update again but they fixed it. And I’m screwed, sprint has the worse customer service I’ve ever had to deal with, especially the fact that no one has been informed about this at all, I have to go over the same details and everyone gives me a lame ass answer or tells me to take it to the store. call customer support, I’m going to go to sprint and make them call customer support. I’m so done with sprint, I am not done addressing this issue, if your going to re release the update, at least fix what you messed up.
