We recently reported that HTC is planning on releasing a trio of tablets with the first one, the HTC Flyer, expected to be launched in March. The gang at Amobil have found the leaked specs for the tablet which will be rolled out with a 7 inch screen featuring 1024 x 600 resolution which matches that belonging to the Samsung Galaxy Tab. No dual-core action here as the Flyer will have the Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor aboard. This is the same chip used in the HTC Desire HD.
Not only is there an HDMI port on the tablet, but it is also DLNA enabled for wireless streaming of video and music. A 5MP camera is on the rear with facial recognition and LED flash. A 1.3 front facing camera will work together with the preinstalled version of Skype to allow you to make/receive video calls. The tablet will feature HSPA connectivity.
The HTC Flyer was running Android 2.3 at the time the specs were received. Since then, Gingerbread has been introduced as the tablet optimized OS for Android which means that the device could be launched with Android 3.0 under the hood. The tablet is expected to have a new, re-worked version of Sense which has what is being called a “desk-top” feel to it.
As we noted, HTC is expected to offer three tablets. The Flyer is the first and the second one is allegedly going to be a 10 inch model that is supposed to compete with the Apple iPad and have LTE connectivity. This tablet should hit the market in the second half of this year. There is no word on what tablet #3 will be like.
